Wonders of the Amazon
|
An Incredible 2,000-Mile Voyage between the Atlantic and the Peruvian Rain Forest! The Amazon is the world's largest rain forest, where the astounding diversity of life on Earth is most completely comprehended. Four thousand miles the Amazon flows, fed by 1,100 tributaries, gently carrying two-thirds of the planet's flowing water down to its Y-shaped delta. One quarter of all the world's bird species flit, flutter, and wade here; nearly 2,000 types of butterflies brush the air among the mahogany, balsam and sapucaia trees of the forest canopy. We'll step out on to the forest floor, with its scent of crushed herbs, and sounds from above--parrots, monkeys, crickets--and peer into a rainbow of orchids or a trail of leaf-cutter ants. Our expert naturalists, steeped in the terrain, know the forest's secrets and how to find them, from howler monkeys in the chicha trees to swooping kingfishers in the shallows. They will describe the unique characteristics and adaptations the flora and fauna have made to compete successfully in theis complex ecosystem. Everywhere, there are marmosets, squirrel monkeys, parrots and toucans. Our voyage into the Amazon is aboard the most luxurious small ship upon the world's greatest river, the 114-guest, all-suite Corinthian II. Each suite is a minimum of 225 square feet, and these spacious accommodations, along with an elegant dining room, beautiful lounge, and wraparound sun deck wil create an ideal cocoon of comfort to return to after exploring the surrounding rainforest. |
