Day 1: Arrive Nairobi, Kenya Arrive at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transfer to the historic Norfolk Hotel. Built in the early 1900s, it has kept pace with the times and offers quiet, elegant, comfort and cuisine of the highest standards. The hotel is set in its own tranquil gardens, only a short distance from the city center.

Days 2-6:
Maasai Mara After breakfast you board the plane for your flight to the famed Maasai Mara, arriving in time to unpack and settle in before a ‘sundowner’ and dinner. While in the Mara you will be amazed by the sheer numbers of wildlife and daily drama that unfolds. Its vast, rolling grasslands, rimmed in the distance by escarpments of the Great Rift Valley and interspersed by riparian forest contain something for every wildlife enthusiasts’ taste: more than 480 species of birds have been identified and, of course, the usual cross-section of terrestrial species. Lions are always excellent here and we’ll have good chances to see and photograph leopard as well. Mara Intrepids Camp is a very comfortable permanent tented camp located in the center of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, on the banks of the Talek River, and near one of the major wildlife migration crossings. This luxurious tented camp has 30 modern tents with a capacity of 60 persons. All tents have either twin or double beds and are arranged in groups of two, three or four units to make individual mini-camps. All tents are self-contained with en suite bathrooms with shower, hot and cold water and electricity.

Day 8: Drive to Kinigi & Gorilla Trekking Early morning departure for the drive to Kinigi near the entrance to Volcanoes National Park, our base for the next two days of gorilla watching. You’ll begin your gorilla trek by hiking to the areas where the gorillas were last spotted. If necessary, your guides will find where the troupe spent the night and track them from there. Once you locate them, you can spend up to an hour sitting quietly nearby as they go about their foraging. Accommodations in Kinigi are at the Gorilla Nest Lodge. This simple yet comfortable lodge is nestled on a five acre compound of tall eucalyptus trees in a lovely rural setting and ideally situated next to the park headquarters. Each double room has en-suite flush toilet and hot showers.
