Antarctica Cruises 2012

We have some exciting new additions to the Antarctica cruises for the 2012 season that open up whole new areas of the southernmost continent.

Antarctica cruise 2011 - 2012 gentoo penguinsOn our two-week long Antarctic Cruise | Penguins of Weddell Sea and the Falklands, you'll get the chance to see all eight of the sub-Antarctic and Antarctic penguins: rockhopper, macaroni, gentoo, adelie, king, emperor, chinstrap and Magellanic. This voyage explores more areas of the continent and islands than our Antarctic Peninsula cruises. Weather permitting, we'll visit Elephant Island where the legendary crew of the Endurance shipwreck overwintered. Plus, we'll have a partial solar eclipse on this voyage!

This Antarctica cruise departs New Zealand aboard the luxury, ice-strengthened vessel Orion. It ventures to Macquarie Island, which rivals South Georgia in its penguin and other seabird numbers. We'll explore the Ross Sea and make as many landings as possible, including at Scott's 1911 Terra Nova hut and Shakleton's 1915 encampment where his ship, the Aurora, was blown out to sea. The Aurora's anchors still remain in front of his hut.

This voyage stops at Macquarie Island on the return north, home to 20,000 breeding pair of royal penguins, king penguins, rock hopper penguins, gentoo penguins and elephant seals.

Even if you've been on one of our other voyages to the Peninsula or South Georgia and the Falkland Islands, these new Antarctica cruises 2011-2012 offer a great chance to visit other parts of this great, frozen continent, and at a discount as well!
