Priced from $9,795 CAD   Days: 7 Special: Save $200 per person by booking before Dec. 23, 2016 for 2017! (New bookings only)

Dymond Lake Lodge offers a lodge based polar bear tour with easy tundra walks for bear and other wildlife viewing at ground level. Stay in a warm, comfortable backcountry lodge, and enjoy gourmet home cooked meals and northern hospitality. Your trip also includes a day of bear-watching from a tundra vehicle.

This beautiful lodge is located just a 30-minute flight north of Churchill on the shore of crystal-clear Dymond Lake and nearby Hudson Bay. The bay, lakeshore and spruce boreal forest is a favorite place for polar bears to hang out while they wait for the ice to appear, signaling the start of their annual winter seal hunt. You will take short hikes during the day onto the tundra and shore accompanied by experienced wilderness guides. Or, view the bears right from the lodge!

Dymond_Lake_Map400pxArrive in Winnipeg in time for 6:00 PM dinner where you will meet your group. Overnight is booked at Grand Hotel, Winnipeg.  D

Day 2: Arrive in Churchill and transfer to the lodge by helicopter or plane.

Fly to Churchill mid morning where one of our staff will meet you for an orientation to the tour including a clothing check (in order to crosscheck your "What to Bring" list that was sent to you).

You will be transferred by helicopter or fixed wing aircraft to Dymond Lake Lodge where your adventure begins in earnest. Have your camera ready as your flight takes you out over the historic Churchill River, and then northwest up the rugged Hudson Bay coast to Canada's most exclusive polar bear viewing property. Keep a sharp eye out for caribou, moose, seals, wolves and bears, of course.

When you arrive, you'll get settled in, have a snack, and a tour of the lodge and polar bear orientation.  Then, you're off for your first guided hike along the rugged and starkly beautiful coastline. In the evening, join the group for  a slide show featuring the wildlife of Hudson Bay.  If the night is clear, you'll most likely be treated to a light show as the Aurora Borealis kicks in. You'll enjoy a gourmet dinner where your hosts and guides will regale you with tales of life and adventures in Canada's Arctic. B,L,D

Day 3 & 4: Tundra Trekking for Polar Bears and Photographing

You'll have two full days for walking the tundra and spotting wildlife, including polar bears. If there are bears in the lodge area, you can safely view and photograph them from observation areas at the lodge.

Breakfast with homemade pastries is served at 8:00 a.m. and the first walking tour generally leaves at 9:30 a.m.  All the walks are comfortably paced as they are designed for maximum viewing and photo opportunities. The walks are guided by our professional and knowledgeable tour leaders and so you’ll learn a lot along the way. Obviously we cannot allow the bears to approach too closely, but your guides are expert in keeping bears at a safe distance without sacrificing exciting viewing and photography.  Polar bears are also known to saunter by the lodge on a regular basis so you can often view them from the warmth and comfort of one of the lounges through the huge picture windows.  If for some reason the weather is uncooperative and forces us to stay indoors, there are plenty of indoor activities and a roaring fire in the fireplace.

After walking, we return to the lodge for lunch, then head out for another tundra excursion in search of bears. We'll return to the lodge around 4:00 p.m. for drinks and appetizers. Full course gourmet dinners are served around 7:00 p.m.  After dinner, you and your fellow guests are welcome to cozy up around the fireplace.  During the evenings, your guides will give informative talks and slide shows, and discuss the activities for the following day.  Night watchmen patrol the lodge area for polar bears all night, and if one or two show up be ready to have your sleep cut short to take advantage of this added bonus. B,L,D

Day 5: Morning flight back to Churchill for exploration on your own.

After breakfast you'll leave the lodge for the flight back to Churchill.  You will have the afternoon free to explore the northern frontier town of Churchill. You might visit the Eskimo Museum, Polar Bear Holding Compound (otherwise known as the Polar Bear Jail) or Cape Merry.  Another option is to book a dog sledding trip, or maybe even a helicopter ride.  Or, just enjoy the town and dinner at one of the restaurants included in your tour. B,D

Day 6: Full day on the tundra

On this day, you will have an opportunity to view bears from a different vantage point - aboard one of the Tundra Buggies ® in the Gordon Point area. You are transported to the tundra vehicle area at 8:00 a.m. and will return at 5:00 p.m.  Aboard the buggy you will have lunch “with the bears.”   In the evening, you'll fly back to Winnipeg and check into your hotel for the last night of your Dymond Lake Lodge Polar Bear Tour. B,L

Day 7: Fly home.

After a complimentary breakfast, fly home any time. B
