Combine Sacha Lodge with a Galapagos Cruise! Sacha Lodge is an excellent add-on to one of our Galapagos cruises, or it can be booked as a great stand-alone exploration of the world's greatest rainforest. Contact our office and we'll help you arrange all the details! Sacha Lodge is located in the midst of awe-inspiring primary rainforest two miles from one of the main tributaries in the upper Amazon River basin, the Rio Napo, on the bank of a deep, clear lake.

Large networks of foot and canoe trails are available for exploration in this 3,200 acre private reserve. More than 500 species of birds are found in this primal rainforest, making it a Mecca for serious birders. A 130-foot observation tower and a 940-foot canopy walkway provide a stunning view of the rainforest and are two of the best ways to view wildlife.

Sacha Lodge is one of the newest and best Amazonian lodges on the upper Amazon basin. It provides comfortable, screened-in huts, made with thatched roofs and local materials. All units have hot showers, toilets and running water and full screens on windows. The food is excellent and the full bar is great place to relax at the end of an exciting day of jungle exploration and wildlife spotting.

Sacha's superb, well-trained guides are both indigenous and non-indigenous, and multi-lingual. They are adept at finding the birds and other wildlife, as well as providing in-depth knowledge of the rainforest and the medicinal value of its plants.

Typical Itinerary (3 or 4 Nights - Longer Stays Available Upon Request)

Day 1: Fly from Quito to Coca, on the banks of the great Rio Napo, tributary to the Amazon. Board a motorized dugout canoe and travel downriver to Sacha Lodge. Overnight at Sacha Lodge.

Combine Sacha with a Galapagos Cruise! Sacha Lodge is an excellent add-on to one of our Galapagos cruises , or it can be booked as a great stand-alone exploration of the world's greatest rainforest. Contact our office and we'll help you arrange all the details!

Days 2-3 (4): Sacha Lodge. Our expert guides give an extensive overview of interrelationship of the plants, arthropods, birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals that make up this remarkable ecosystem.

Observe the rainforest canopy from a large tree canopy platform 130 feet above the ground in an enormous cecropia tree or from Sacha's 940-foot canopy walkway. Explore the jungle streams in dugout canoes or hike the forest trails and learn about medicinal plants and healing from native guides. Night walks and canoe trips, with the aid of flashlights, reveal creatures seldom seen during the day.

The forest is filled with birdlife - more than 500 species. Toucans and macaws are some of the more colorful ones, and you can visit the Yasuni parrot lick a short distance from the lodge where flocks of parrots gather to eat mineral-rich clay banks along the Napo River. You'll see howler monkeys and three-toed sloths in the forest canopy and the lodge's Butterfly House breeds more than 40 species of colorful butterflies.

Cool off at the end of the day in Sacha's deep lake or have a drink in the thatched roof bar!

Note: If you are particularly interested in birding while at Sacha Lodge, please let us know when you book so that we can arrange to have an expert birding guide available for you.

The lodging at Sacha was carefully designed to offer comfort to the traveler yet preserve the environment and rainforest ambience.

All of the cabins, with high thatched roofs and private shaded terraces, are constructed with traditional materials and nestle well concealed into the lush surroundings. Each of 26 the rooms, which include single, double and (upon request) triple accommodations, provides a private bathroom with flushing toilet and hot shower.

All cabins are screened against insects, and contain ceiling fans above two comfortable double beds. During free time, visitors may overlook the jungle from hammocks and often report seeing wild fauna such as toucans, agoutis and monkeys right from their own cabin!

Guests may also enjoy a raised lookout above the main bar and lounge, which offers a scenic view of Pilchicocha Lake and excellent opportunities to birdwatch.
